I 'm running Red Hat 5.1 (2.0.34) on a P166 equipped with an SB16. I
couldn't find an RPM for the driver so I downloaded, compiled, and
installed alsa-driver-0.3.0-pre1. A modprobe of snd-sb16 worked but I
didn't know how to test. My CD player (KDE) no longer works. I wanted
to use the alsasound script but saw that it required the alsactl program
from alsa-utils package. That's where things go awry. I installed the
lib RPM. I then attempt to install the utils RPM but it states that
driver must be installed first. I've done that manually above. So I
remove the lib RPM, download the source for lib and utils, try again and
get the same error. How can I get this FULLY installed on my RH 5.1
system? I need full-duplex on my SB16 and am told this is the way to
go. Many thanks in advance for all assistance.
