Hello!

Just switched over from the Ultra driver to the ALSA driver this weekend
on my PNP at home and I like it! Seems to be rock solid (so far), fixes
many of the bugs in the Ultra PCM code (like Real Player being choppy,
multimedia sync, etc). Haven't tried recording yet.

However I do have some questions that aren't in the docs (or the FAQ)..

1) Is there a way to config alsa so that the mixer channels are unmuted
by default?

2) I see the mention of midi support being added a few rev's back. I take
it that it is not usable. What will the design be compared to the Ultra
driver, and when will there be a usable version. (I REALLY loved being
able to do a 'playmidi -e xxx.mid' with the ultra driver. Really neat!)

3) Can anyone confirm that the opening movies for Quake2 for Linux are
choppy with this driver? Been that way with the Ultra driver as well.

Anyway, ALSA looks really good so far, and I swear that some of the MP3's
I tried sounded better than with the Ultra driver.

thanks,
jf
