I note that some interesting soundcards are reviewed fairly extensively
at http://www.rockpark.com/soundcards/ by Arny Kruger; who also runs
a site at http://www.pcavtech.com/soundcards/

His reference card is the Gina by Event Electronics; very clean.
24 bit digital I/O; no midi; CS3310/4327/5335; same as TurtleBeach fiji
but much better SNR and THD.  Darla is same without S/PDIF.

Another good card site is http://www.digitalexperience.com/cards.html, they
even reference some oss drivers.  Someone should update their list with ALSA
supported stuff too.

Lots to look at, this is a good time for audio.
