About the card, I've been very impressed by the sound quality of my Ensoniq
AudioPCI card. It's the same chip set as the Sound Blaster PCI 64. The card has
got very low noise levels (definitely acceptable for analog conversion
purposes). It has a built in pre-amp if you choose to use it, but also has a
line-in, which of course will give you lower noise levels. It cost me $115 in
Australia, and I think that it's worth every cent. If you happen to be using it
under windows as well, you will find that the synth on it is much better than
the gus although it does use system ram. It's also got exceptional full-fuplex
(well, compared to the other 4 cards I tried before it... ummm an ESS
AudioDrive, GUS, Sound Blaster 16 Value, an Aztech Labs card, don't know which
one). I'd be interested to find what software you are using. Also, the AudioPCI
may help with your drop out problems, as it is a PCI card meaning your PC will
spend less time reading the cards input, and has more time to write to the hard
disk, failing to write to the hard disk is the most common cause of sound drop
out on PCs. Hope that helps

Jim.
