Woops!  I'm a dumbass, I didn't have isapnp configured right.  I think I
do now though and ALSA seems to be much happier though when I start
alsaconfig it says it finds a Soundblaster Pro, if I configure it as such
my audio works (kinda) but I only get a few seconds of sound when playing
mp3's and they loop constantly... I think I've seen this mentioned before
on this list and it was a IRQ prob so I'll look into that.  Also if I tell
the configurator that I actually have a OPL3-SA3 it fails with the exact
same message as before (see below).

Oh well I'm closer now atleast.
