Is it possible, that you have an ES1869 like chip in your laptop, since
you can do Full duplex in Windows?
Try the verry new Alsa - Drivers with

# modprobe snd-audiodrive1869

I have had the same idea ("portable multitrack studio"), but the recording
background noise, i.e. if I move the mouse, is to high on my laptop to do
something serious like that.
