I have been doing some more experimenting, and have come
up with some more info that may help.

I have a command-line 'vu' meter that I use in pipes of
audio samples. This is what I have been using to monitor
the output of 'vrec', which is the stock dsp recorder for
linux.

It seems that when the driver is first loaded, I get full
max amplitude input even when there is no sound. The output
hovers around 32000. If I use 'vplay' to play a sound, it
works correctly as I said before. The odd thing is that after
playing any sound one or more times, this is when any subsequent
recording efforts output the extremely low values (5-6).

It makes no difference whether I do the recording while playing
or separately.

Thanks for any help.

Toby
