Salut,

I have the alsa-drivers (v. 0.2.0pre10p1) installed on my Debian 2.0 sytem
(2.0.36).
After calling "modprobe snd-sb16" the output of cat >/dev/sndstat looks
like this:

Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v0.2.0-pre10p1 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux ezln.at 2.0.36 #6 Wed Nov 18 01:05:46 CET 1998 i586
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
Sound Blaster 16 at 0x220, irq 5, dma 1&5

Audio devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Synth devices:
0: OPL3 FM

Midi devices:
0: MPU-401 (UART)

Timers:
7: system timer

Mixers:
0: CTL1745

WARNING!!! The /dev/sndstat device is obsolete. Support for this device may
be REMOVED in the future!!! Better information about ALSA driver is available
  in the /proc/asound directory.

It's seems that all devices are create successfully?
But when I am playing music (cd, mp3, wav, mid) I do not here a single
noise. I have unmuted everything that was muted, both with amixer and
xamixer-0.1.11.
What's wrong? What does "Audio Devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG" mean? Is
this the problem? Where can I enable them?
I compiled the kernel (v2.0.36) without Sound Support.

I hope that someone on the list, can help me. THANKS!

Bye,
  Herbert
