Ok, my conf.modules now looks like:
alias char-major-14 snd
alias snd-minor-oss-0 snd-mixer
alias snd-minor-oss-3 snd-pcm1-oss
alias snd-minor-oss-4 snd-pcm1-oss
alias snd-minor-oss-5 snd-pcm1-oss
alias snd-minor-oss-12 snd-pcm1-oss
alias snd-card-0 snd-card-cs4236
options snd-card-cs4236 snd_cport=0xf00 snd_port=0x534 snd_irq=5 \
	snd_dma1=1 snd_dma2=0 snd_mpu_port=0x220 snd_fm_port=0x0388

Now, when I do 'modprobe snd-card-0' I get

/lib/modules/2.0.35/misc/snd-card-cs4236.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
snd-mixer: Device or resource busy

on stdout, and
snd: warning: can't allocate IRQ for MPU401, midi port is disabled
snd: CS4236+ soundcard #1 not found at 0x534 or device busy
snd: CS4236+ soundcard #2 not found or device busy

in /var/log/messages. Appropriate lines in isapnp.conf look like:
(CONFIGURE CSC0b35/-1 (LD 0
(DMA 0 (CHANNEL 1))
(DMA 1 (CHANNEL 0))
(INT 0 (IRQ 5 (MODE +E)))
(IO 0 (BASE 0x0534))
(IO 1 (BASE 0x0388))
(IO 2 (BASE 0x0220))

The thing I can't find any reference to is the control port. I tried
booting into NT and using the driver IBM supplied on their site (I'm using
an IBM Intellistation M Pro, mod 6888-22U) and it worked just fine. I
can't seem to find the more low-level settings from there (of course).
What I was able to glean was:
Port 530H (WTF?)
IRQ 5
Duplex Full
DMA 1,0

I think once I find the control port address, I'll be on my way. Any
suggestions?

Dunno. :) RedHat's config tools use it...
