ok, i'm an idiot... i had the stupid OSS/Linux RUNNING!!! ARG! anyway, now
it can atleast try to start the sound module, tho' i get the following
error:

Starting sound driver: snd-audiopci done
ERROR: alsactl not found

what does this mean?

also, what do i need to do to get alsa to load on boot? i'd like it to seem
as much to me as if sound support is in the kernel (as in k2.1.12x)... that
way, i don't have to worry about starting it all the time... looks like i
have to start w/ alsasound, because i'm in RedHat 5.2, and the modprob thing
isn't working...
