I did read the FAQ and I HAVE unmuted the mixer.  The problem lies in the
fact that nothing can access the DSP.  I will try your suggestion to allow
the sbawe drive to find the EMU8000 engine.

Do you have any suggestions on why software can't access the DSP or why I
can't compile the utils?  Is there a better program that AMP to test the
driver's functionality?  Can I just CAT .au files to somewhere in /dev?
