I am an everyday happy user of the alsa driver on a creative labs
awe32. (I will never use its awe32 abilities, in fact, I use it
as if it were a sb16 --- that's my sole reproach).
Initially I needed a full-duplex-able driver for a specific
application, but I kept alsa since its fully modular architecture
seems more efficient than the OSS driver. and it's free software.

That's why I almost never post on this mailing list, but your
message made me sad. a little.

I never experienced system troubles due to this driver. But it's
an evidence that some drivers must be quite stable and some other
verrrrrrrry alpha.
