Well, I double checked my kernel, and updated my isapnptools to the
current 1.26 version.

But then I think I found the real problem. My /etc/conf.modules was
using 'snd-cs4236' when I should have been using 'snd-card-cs4236'.
After I made that change, tweaked the module options, and played with
the mixer settings a bit everything seems to work.

I can play CD's with xplaycd and X11amp works great with my MP3's!

The only minor problem I have is a very small popping sound when the
card is first opened/closed by software. For instance, if I bring
up Real Player with no file and play with the volume setting I can
get the popping sound quite a bit.

My thanks to the ALSA developers, you've gone a great job! Keep it
up. If there's anything I can do to help out, let me know.

BTW, anyone know if there is a standard method of providing monetary
support for Linux software development? I wouldn't mind providing a
small bit of hardware for testing (or cash for buying hardware).
Free software isn't free of develop costs.

Later,
Ryan
