This file is specific to RedHat setup (system V? dunno for sure). This
file is just like autoexec.bat in DOS (sic). I'm sure there is a similair
file with SuSe.

Basically all OSS software should work with ALSA, but it looks like sound
is not working, period. What does /proc/asound/cards say? And does it
correspond to the settings for your soundcard?

Not yet, the ALSA sequencer stuff is being worked on right now
