I don't think there's any fundamental reason why this chip can't be supported.
The documentation exists and is available.  It's just a question of programmer
time.

Personally, I would rather see JK working on improving some of the more
advanced features of ALSA, rather than trying to get every chip under the sun
working today, even though I too have a machine with an unsupported ESS chip.
(If I had the time myself, I'd attempt to write the driver before asking him
to make it a priority. (I know that's not what you're asking for.)  Hmm...
Jaroslav, are those documents on the web somewhere?  Can you send a URL?)

I think he's doing a pretty good job with his limited time.

Now, if only Red Hat would hire him to work on ALSA full time...
