You can simply try 'cd utils; ./insert audiopci' for first stage. If these
commands doesn't work, there is problem with driver or hardware resources
(IRQ, I/O ports). More info should be in /var/log/messages...

You can also try compile driver with debugging messages (./configure
--with-debug=detect).

If you want more help - send me /proc/pci, /proc/interrupts, /proc/ioports 
and messages from driver (if any).
