Please, specify which signal - PCM or from some external input (CD,
Line-In)? If PCM - have you loaded module snd-pcm1-oss? If other - can you
try initialize soundcard in some other environment (DOS, W$) and try
driver again? Probably master volume isn't initialized in this case.

I'm planning make native driver for ES1868+ chips (documentation is
available), but I willn't have time in near future to do it :-((((
