Today I wrote a proper man page for amixer, and started an instructional
README for alsamixer. I will submit these to the authors of the mixers
for approval and corrections, but first I have a couple of questions
about functionality:

amixer:
------

What exactly does the -d flag select? I get an error if I use anything
but the default (0). Is this for special types of soundcards?

alsamixer:
---------

What is the -m flag for? I get errors like "failed to open mixer #0/#48:
No such file or directory", no matter what I try for this.
Is it related to the amixer -d flag?

What is the Record-G channel?

What does "L" do? It re-draws the screen; is that all it does?

Thanks for any help,

PW
