Right you are!! Thank you!

OK, I fixed the isapnp.conf file and I'm doing some tests.

General note: With OSS-lite and OSS-Linux, I used to get bad pops
whenever any app started playing sound. New versions of OSS-Linux have
fixed this. ALSA does not pop when sounds start. Yay! There is, however,
a click at the _end_ of any sound! It's not nearly as bad as the initial
pop I used to get, though... (and OSS-Linux does it too.)

Notes on particular applications, tested with the Turtle Beach Malibu (I
haven't tried my Vibra16 yet):

Multitrack 2.2: Doesn't work worth a damn. Console messages indicate
that it's not finding the soundcards. Has anyone been able to get
  Multitrack to work?

All other apps I've tried work:

alsamixer seems to be working well. I'm not sure what some of the
channels refer to, but I'll figure it out. 3D controls are working
nicely.

Xmixer: Seems fully functional. Master volume even works -- it never
  did in OSS!!

XPlayCD: Fully functional.

DAP: Fully functional: play, record, and mixer are fine.

MiXViews: play & record are fine.

Snd: Plays and records OK. But if I record a 44k, 16-bit stereo WAV
file, it seems to be sampling at 22K and giving it a 44K header --
i.e. sndinfo foobar.wav shows the correct format, but it plays back
at doubled speed/pitch. Also, Sox reports "premature EOF" on the
file. This may be a bug in the version of Snd I have. I'll test
it with OSS and see if the same thing happens.

csound -odevaudio: works great!

PW

Thanks! I am now able to switch drivers without too much trouble.

I notice in the TODO file that more documentation is wanted. I would
like to contribute some time to this effort. For starters, I don't find
any documentation on alsamixer or alsamix included with the
distribution. So I will write a basic README for those. (And I'll ask
annoying questions when I can't figure something out!)
