I tried using the ALSA driver with my AudioPCI card. The driver compiles
and installs very nicely (automatically detected everything - good job). It
even creates many devices (/dev/audio and /dev/dsp to name a few). The
/proc/asound entry is created and provides a wonderful window into what's
going on. Additionally, I'm able to run xmixer and make adjustments (no
complaints or errors from xmixer - seems to work as well as OSS'), but can't
confirm that it's actually programatically changing anything. Any time I
attempt to use /dev/audio, /dev/dsp devices, I get an error message back
(don't remember exactly) saying that the device does not support the
operation; or some such error. By "using" the device, I mean something
simple like "cat snd.au > /dev/dsp" or "car snd.au > /dev/audio". I can't
seem to get any sound to come out. Does the device driver have everything
implemented for these devices, or is it currently a skeleton device waiting
for additional implementation? If the later, and you have programming
specs, I'd be willing to attempt some contribution to this device driver.

Thanks,
	Greg Copeland
