I think, thanks to jeremy, i figured out how to get alsa working with my
cs4237
BUT, i had typed make clean, in an attempt to fix the problem, but now
alsa wont even configure!
this is what it says

checking for default major number for the alsa driver... 14
checking for directory with kernel source... /usr/src/linux
checking for kernel version... expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
expr: syntax error
failed (probably missing /usr/src/linux/include/linux/Makefile)

it's right, there is no makefile in that dir, and i extracted kernel
source again, but still no file there.
Im confused why this was working before(configured and compiled) yet now
does not? I wish i could figure this out, I want sound:)
any help appreciated!
(yes, i tried fresh alsa source, same thing)
