Using alsa driver .30-pre4, alsa libs .30-pre4, alsa util .30-pre3, all
source downloaded from cvs today. Alsa drivers compiled with
--with-isapnp=no and --with-sequencer=yes. Kernel 2.2.1, compiled with the
"Do you want sound?" option. Running the Debian Slink/Potato"e"
distribution.

before I do modprobe -a /lib/modules/2.2.1/misc/snd-opl3sa.o,

lsmod:
Module Size Used by
ide-cd 20796 0 (autoclean)
cdrom 11584 0 (autoclean)[ide-cd]
pcnet_cs 7644 1
8390 5900 0 [pcnet_cs]

after I do modprobe -a /lib/modules/2.2.1/misc/snd-opl3sa.o I get,

/lib/modules/2.2.1/misc/snd-opl3sa.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
snd: Device or resource busy

and lsmod gives

lsmod:

and, obviously, the snd-opl3sa module isn't loaded. Of course, I tried to
run some sound apps anyway, but none worked, and I couldn't access the mixer
using alsamixer or amixer. Any help would be great!

p.s. If you know anything about the Gateway 9100 (P 233 MMX model, 14.1"
screen), it has a option in the bios for "Plug and Play Aware OS". I've
tried setting this to on and off without success. There is also an option to
enable or disable the sound, and if enabled, it allows you to set the
ports/irqs that the card uses. I've tried Alsa with this both enabled and
disabled. (Hoping that some sorta pnp thing would kick in if I disabled it,
but pnpdump picks up nothing, and compiling Alsa with the pnp stuff also
does nothing.) Like I said previously, I'm sure my hardware works both
under Windows and using the OSS drivers.
