I couldn't agree more! This mail told me what I needed to know, thanks.

On another topic, why do some sound applications work with alsa and some
don't? I've got SLab to work nearly very well, but MultiTrack doesn't
record at all. In fairness, SLab doesn't work on my kit at all with OSS
20$ version.
