Hello,

I use alsa 0.3.0-pre3, and am extremely satisfied - I couldn't
get both my machines up and running with any of the alternatives,
but with alsa everything was easy!

But playing CD's eludes me still... I can control the CD player with
all the x-windows cd players out there, no problem, and using the
phone-plug in the front of the player gives me sound. But no sound
from the soundcard... of course the 'cd2wav + pipe' solution works, but it's
kind of a pain.

here's my lsmod | grep snd:

snd-pcm1-oss 14228 0 (autoclean)

snd-opl3 2184 0 [snd-sb16]
snd-timer 3820 0 [snd-opl3]

snd-mpu401-uart 1880 0 [snd-sb16]
snd-sb-dsp 16124 0 [snd-sb16]

snd-mixer 13812 0 [snd-pcm1-oss snd-sb16 snd-sb-dsp]
snd-midi 15948 0 [snd-sb16 snd-mpu401-uart snd-sb-dsp]

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
