Hello to everybody:

This is my first message here. I am not a very experienced Linux
user, but I have decided to install Debian 2.0 in my home PC three weeks
ago. I have recompiled the kernel in order to match the hardware of my
PC, but I did not achieve to get my GUS working properly. It worked
almos perfectly, but uit was impossible to get any midi sound. So I
recompiled the kernel without sound support and installed the
ALSA drivers, libs and utils. But I still have almost the same problem!
Before, playmidi and/or xplaymidi ran but they do not give any sound.
Now, with ALSA, playmidi and/or xplaymidi gives me the following error
message:

Playidi 2.3 Copyright (C) 1994-1996 Natha I. Laredo
This is free software with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
For details please see file COPYING.
open /dev/sequencer: Operation not supported by device

Hereunder I give you some information which could be useful:
1.- Driver and kernel version:
Adavanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.3.0-pre3
Compiled in Feb 11 1999 for kernel 2.0.36
2.- My Gravis Ultrasound:
    Version 3.73
    SN: K116104
    Bought in 1993
3.- Other information in /proc/...
    0 [card1]: GUS - Gravis UltraSound Classic (3.7)
Gravis UltraSound Classic (3.7) at 0x220, irq 5,
dma 5&6

And just another question. I have given in /etc/conf.modules the
information so that kerneld load the GUS module (snd-gusclassic). But
once the system has booted, I must type "modprobe snd.gusclassic". I do
not like to do this every time I boot my PC. Is it possible to load
automatically this module at boot time?

Thanks in advance.
