Hi!
First of all, thanks to those who helped with the ./configure question. I
finally compiled all files, and got all working... Let's have a look:

pc117179:~$ cat /proc/modules
snd-esssolo1 1824 0
snd-es1938 4064 0 [snd-esssolo1]
snd-pcm1 17120 0 [snd-es1938]

So the modules for the ESS solo1 are on board. Good
   pc117179:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards

                        ESS Solo-1 rev 0, irq 11

The card is also found. Try the mixer

  That should be fine... Versions
pc117179:~$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.3.0-pre3.
Compiled in Feb 2 1999 for kernel 2.2.1 (SMP).

I downloaded all the pre3 files from alsa.jcu.cz today. I think that the lib
file is .pre3a or something similar. It's the only pre3 that's available in
that directory, though.

--------------------------------

   THE PROBLEM.
Basically, if I try to aplay a file, or to cat >/dev/snd/pcm00, I can
hear a faint rustle of the actual sound, and after a while, Linux crashes
completely, and I have to manually reset and restart the system.

   Any clues about that?

   Cheers,
   Jose
