Hi there,

Just two days ago, I bought a GUS Extreme after checking it
is supported under Linux :-)

After buying it I found out Gravis don't make their soundcards anymore,
nor do they provide much info about their cards :-(

I downloaded ALSA 0.1.3 and built it without any problems. My problems
started after that ... I can't figure out what to put in the
conf.modules
file ... I'd put in:

---------------------------------------
alias char-major-14 snd
alias snd-minor-oss-0 snd-gusextreme
alias snd-minor-oss-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias snd-minor-oss-4 snd-pcm-oss
alias snd-minor-oss-5 snd-pcm-oss
alias snd-minor-oss-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias snd-card-0 snd-gusextreme
options snd snd_major=14 snd_cards_limit=1
options snd-gusextreme snd_index=1 snd_id="gusextreme" snd_port=0x240
... ...snd_mpu_port=330 snd_irq=5 snd_mpu_irq=9 snd_irq1=12 snd_dma8=1
... ...snd_dma8_size=8 snd_dma1=5 snd_dma1_size=8 snd_joystick_dac=0
---------------------------------------
... means: line continues.

I tried changing the snd_port from 0x240 to 0x200, 0x220 etc. but it
didn't
make any difference. When I run alsasound start, I get the next reply:

---------------------------------------
[root@localhost alsadriver]# ./utils/alsasound start
Starting sound driver: snd-gusextreme snd: GUS Extreme soundcard #1 not
found at 0x240 or device busy
snd: GUS Extreme soundcard #2 not found or device busy
/lib/modules/2.0.32/misc/snd-gusextreme.o: init_module: Device or
resource busy
snd: Device or resource busy
done
[root@localhost alsadriver]# ./utils/alsasound stop
Shutting down sound driver: done
---------------------------------------

Anyone out there to help me out ??

        Joris
