Hi!

Did you compile alsa-libs?  If so, is the dir they reside  in your
LD_LIBRARY_PATH or your /etc/ld.so.conf?
If that is all well and good, did you recompile amixer, (I like xamixer
myself, but if your in console, that won't do you much good), so that it
uses the newly compiled libs?  The default mixer may not work, cuz it's an
OSS mixer.
