I'm running 2.2.0-final (the pre9 one, I haven't booted 2.2.0 yet) and the
sound modules loads just fine with modprobe. I've compiled kmod in the
kernel.

Auto-loading is done with oss-apps but not wiht apps based on alsa-lib :-(

And these lines in /etc/conf.modules does what they're intended to do :-)
post-install snd-sbawe alsactl restore
pre-remove snd-sbawe alsactl store

It's working and I'm happy 2.2 user :-)
