Unfortunetly, it is not going as well as I would like. I have had zero
extra time for lately. However, I have just stopped working at one of my
jobs to catch up on others, so I may have more extra time in the near
future.

My main purpose in writing the driver is to become acquanted with the ALSA
source so I can document it better.

Excuse my ignorance, but is 4front the company that puts out the OSS
driver? When I tried to get info from emagic, they told me they were
working on an OSS driver, and then they wouldn't respond to any of my
additional messages. I wonder how far they have got with it?

I think it is a good idea to write up information on which high end audio
cards may be supported by ALSA, so good luck with that. If you need any
additional information from me, just let me know.
