Hi guys

As for steve, I have tried to install ALSA on my ViBRA16X PnP. I noticed that
there was some noise, and my card also is in 8 bits mode.

But when I change my DMA, it becomes recognized by the kernel, but I have no
sound any more. Let's see now both of the cases (sorry for the figures) :

--------------------------------- Using DMA16 = 5 ------------------------------

/proc/dma

  1: Sound Blaster 16
  4: cascade
  5: Sound Blaster 16

/proc/sound/cards

0 [card1 ]: SB16 - Sound Blaster 16
                     Sound Blaster 16 at 0x220, irq 9, dma 1&5

/proc/sound/version

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.1.3.
Compiled in May 30 1998 for kernel 2.1.101.

/proc/sound/0/sb16

SB16 DMA usage

Playback DMA : auto (inactive)
Record DMA : auto (inactive)

/etc/conf.modules
[...]
options snd-sb16 snd_index=1 snd_port=0x220 snd_irq=9 snd_dma8=1 snd_dma16=5
[...]

/etc/isapnp.conf

[...]
 (DMA 1 (CHANNEL 5))
[...]

--------------------------------- Using DMA16 = 0 ------------------------------

/proc/dma

 1: Sound Blaster 16
 4: cascade

/proc/sound/cards

0 [card1 ]: SB16 - Sound Blaster 16
                     Sound Blaster 16 at 0x220, irq 9, dma 1

/proc/sound/0/sb16

SB16 DMA usage

Shared DMA : 8-bit

/etc/conf.modules

[...]
options snd-sb16 snd_index=1 snd_port=0x220 snd_irq=9 snd_dma8=1 snd_dma16=0
[...]

/etc/isapnp.conf

[...]
 (DMA 1 (CHANNEL 0))
[...]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well, I can have the satisfaction of obtaining 16 bits sound, or of hearing
sound, but not both :))

Moreover, ViBRA16X PnP cards are Creative labs', no ? Can the be not fully
compatible ?
