Hi all!

I didn't release 0.2.0 final versions of all three ALSA packages
this week due to missing documentation. Here is list of volunteers which
are working on documentation (report status, please):

Alan Robinson <robinson@vt.edu>
  - corrections for alsa-lib documentation
Paul Winkler <zarmzarm@erols.com>
  - manual pages for alsactl, alsamixer, aplay/arecord
John Fulmer <jfulmer@iegroup.com>
  - ALSA installation guide
Chris David <cdavid@umich.edu>
  - ALSA driver documentation for driver developers
  - first LyX version done
  - this documentation should be improved after final 0.2.0 release
(this means that 0.2.0 final release doesn't depends on it)

I'm planning post messages about 0.2.0 messages to linux-kernel
mailing list, to www.freshmeat.net etc.. For this reason I'm thinking that
documentation about ALSA installation and for applications is required
before final release.
OK. I made some updates to new automake & libtool version of ALSA
C library (alsa-lib). Please, report all compilation/installation trouble
with CVS version of library (release package will already contains files
created by sequence 'aclocal; automake; autoconf'), thank you.
Please, report all other fatal trouble with CVS version of all
packages...
I hope that 0.2.0 final will be released soon (I have many ideas
for 0.3.0 version and sequencer support).

Offtopic (reply directly to me, not to list):

This is my audio story. About three weeks ago I was looking for
some good A/V receiver. I began with Marantz A/V receiver SR580, but this
receiver doesn't contains 5.1 input and digital PCM input. Next receiver
was Kenwood KRF-V8010D, but this receiver wasn't available here in right
time for testing. On market in Czech Republic is available Onkyo receivers
- but they don't have separated digital PCM input. After scanning of some
WWW sites I found new models from Yamaha (RX-V595 & RX-V795).
Unfortunately these "full featured" models aren't available in Europe yet.
After some e-mails (and no answers) and asking in shops I give up.

This week I found Sony STR-DB925 receiver at very good price. This
receiver have build-in AC-3 + DTS decoders and three optical inputs, one
optical output and one coaxial input. I was very surprised that this
receiver is available in Sony shop in my town. Here my story ends: I have
now this full featured receiver at home from Friday. I can connect
everything (including soundcards with digital outputs and inputs), I'm
ready for DVD (including DTS and other decoder for 5.1 channels which
should be developed in future). I think that digital connection between
amplifier and soundcard is future for computer audio (look to SoundBlaster
Live or Turtle Beach Malibu or Intel's Audio Codec '98 specification for
example).

Here is my basic digital dream audio configuration for year 1998 at
reasonable price:

    A/V receiver Sony STR-DB925 (5x100W)
    CD player Sony CDP-XE520
	- pulse D/A converter
	- 98dB dynamic range
	- digital optical output
Two loudspeakers Canton Fonum 730DC (120W, 20-30000Hz range)
(three way loudspeakers with two 20cm bass repro)
