I doubt you'll get anything about the SR converter,
as it seems there is not even documentation within
Ensoniq :-)  I've got the code snippet which
is in my es1371 driver from an ensoniq driver
writer, and it apparently works for me. Maybe there's
just a buglet somewhere in the ALSA driver?
