I think that ES1887 chip should be supported by ALSA, but at this time I'm
alone person which is adding new drivers for soundcards to ALSA project.
I'm also main coder and designer of ALSA API and I'm thinking at this
time, that ALSA have drivers for major soundcards available in current
soundcards. One person cannot write drivers for all soundcards, so I'm
still waiting for other programmers. My plan for future is make current
drivers perfect (work on sequencer and WaveTable drivers and API
improvements) and I probably willn't add code for new soundcards (only in
rare situations) in near future.

I don't have documentation for ES1887, but I have documentation for
ES1878/79 chips and I don't assume that ES1887 will be very different.
There is no reason for which shouldn't be ESS chips supported. If you ask
on timeline: I don't know. Maybe someone will add support this month,
maybe ESS chips willn't be supported at any time... Maybe I add support in
next year... I don't know...

Documentation for ESS chips can be get from: ftp://ftp.esstech.com.tw
