Very, very impressive... Andy is going to create 'ALSA application of
year 1998' :-))

OK. I tried your player on two computers with three different soundcards
and looks that is basically working. I reached sometimes some SIGSEGV at
end of playing..

Also looks that there are small trouble with underruns when I'm doing
something other (compilation or using Netscape), but your player is
typically foreground application which needs realtime interaction.
We already have background type applications such as mpg123..
