xfmix is showing mono/stereo for all the correct controls including pcm
now.

Also, how about specifing user/group for the device files in
/proc/asound/dev?  A lot of people will want to control the access to those
devices.  Especially after the first time someone turns up the volume and
starts blaring music or your kernel while you were sound asleep.  Something
like that convinced me to restrict access. 

Any good way of doing this?  Compile time option, or a insmod parameter?
