I'm trying write documentation in SGML, but looks that this format is very
much simple. Primary formatted documentation should be in HTML, but PDF
isn't very bad, too. It depends on you what tool you choose. I'm thinking
that (La)TeX should be useable, too. In other words - final documentation
should be in HTML.

Yep.. My notes are in doc/coding.sgml. If you have some questions, ideas
what could be renamed/rearranged (to precise syntax/code) etc. - feel free
write me. I'll try answer soon as possible. All interfaces (except
synthesizer and sequencer interfaces) are done now (version 0.2.0pre4
of driver).
