I apologize in advance since, I don't know C well enough to try this myself.

Is it possible for alsa to setup /dev/dsp in such a way that multiple programs can open it at different samplerates and mix the "channels"?
The Enlightened sound daemon does this using sockets and a daemon, but it would be much more practical to have it in the sound module itself.
