Hello everyone,

After a day of terrorizing Abramo Bagnara with questions and remarks about
his ES18xx driver, I'll finally send a message to the devel-list. I'm
trying to get a ESS1888 soundchip to work. The 03-08 version does not work,
but since then (after more cautious looking into the source) a lot has
changed in the driver. Unfortunately, compiling 03-10, 03-11 and 03-12
won't work on the particular computer I'm using. Strangely enough, on my
own computer, compiling works well, and both are Linux 2.0.35 i586 unknown....

The messages I get:

timer.c:1095: conflicting types for `snd_timer_user_select'
timer.c:867: previous declaration of `snd_timer_user_select'
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:2568: Fatal error: Symbol snd_timer_user_select already
defined.
make[1]: *** [timer.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver/kernel'
make: *** [compile] Error 1

I will start bothering Abramo again once I have time to compile & copy the
drivers to the new machine. Ouch! Ah! Sorry! Eh, instead, I'll keep my
mouth shut a few days and not disturb developers' work...

(I'm not on the alsa-devel-list - is that a problem? The computer is a
quite newly installed Slackware 3.6)

Valentijn
