I'm into music, not programming. Maybe linux isn't the place to go,
maybe I should splash out on a Mac. Anyhow, sooner or later I'd like to
get rid of MSwin95 and use something reliable.

The "problem" is that there is so many good audio programs for win95...
here we go:

Is there a generally accepted plugin standard for Linux audio programs?
Something comparable to Premiere, DirectX or VST? The existance of such a
standard would promote the very concept of audio applications running on
Linux.

Here's some things that the plugin format should be capable of:
-provide an standard API that different programs could use.
-control effects which run on the computers processor.
        -control DSPs on the soundcard(S)
-support multiple channels and simultaneous use of the same
        plugins on these.
        -automation/envelope control of the effects
-support both real-time and destructive processing
-scaleability and openness to new concepts or DSPs.
-simplicity of programming in order to encourage developers
        -et.c...

As far as I understand, OSS (and Highend Sounddriver?) only provide
support of the various functions of different soundcards.Yes/no? Anyhow,
any particular function may or may not be present in the actual
audio software. But add plugin support and the possibilities become almost
endless.

Comments?
