Then it's best just to load all sound modules at boot time without auto
load/unload, as Jaroslav suggested. Or can you explain why unloading the
snd modules is preffered? Memory usage?

But you do need to tell the small module the initial mixer settings,
right? This needs to be done in the startup sequence, or you should
hardcode the values in the module :)
