some time ago i purchased a diamond sonic impact s70 (sound card based
on ess maestro II chip) but i got my first kid in the same time and i
just had the time to find the hidden ess ftp pages... ;-)

  ftp://www.esstech.com.tw

and there is also another ftp service for upgrades at
ftp://www.essservice.com but is a lot misconfigured!!

they have a sample of a test program in c source but with really low
disclosure of the various feature (ASSP in primis..)

i believe that there are two ways for a maestro II to work..

1- quick and dirty hack: try to port the sbinit.c function to set on the
sb emulation mode.

2- the real thing: a alsa driver, with a lot of assumption about the
chip..

ciao
