Yep.. The /dev/sndinfo is obsolete device and it isn't used. Information
about driver status should be now read using /proc/sound.

All mixer channels are in 0.0.11+ version of driver muted by default after
module load. You should get alsa-utils package and with using Mixer
program unmute selected channels....
