(and no, I don't have OSS/Free / OSS/Linux loaded; both load & unload gracefully)

another prob:
In some rare situations I get the card (gus pnp 8meg) in a situation where
the right channel has around 30% static noise... happens with all the
Linux sound drivers I've seen this far & only when player programs
terminate abnormally (control-c, seg fault, ...)
