Dear sirs,

pardon me for borinng. As I've heard that card SB64PCI (ens1370) works fine
with ALSA driver. But all my attempts to force it be working were fault.
My system is:

RedHat 5.2 (kernel 2.2.1)
Kernel build with sound modules support but without any standard sound
modules.

I take the next packs from your site:

alsa-driver-0.3.0-pre4
alsa-lib-0.1.3
alsa-utils-0.3.0-pre3

compiled them and installed.

executed snddevices script (succefully)

I 'insmod'ed the modules as follows:

insmod soundcore.o
insmod sound.o
insmod snd.o
insmod snd-timer.o
insmod snd-seq.o
insmod snd-synth.o
insmod snd-pcm.o
insmod snd-pcm1.o
insmod snd-mixer.o
insmod snd-pcm1-oss.o
insmod snd-opl3.o
insmod snd-midi.o
insmod snd-ac97-codec.o
insmod snd-ens1370.o
insmod snd-seq-midi.o
insmod snd-detect.o

in this sequence (well, it seems for me that I insmoded couple of
unnecessary modules).

After all I have the next contend of important files in /proc/asound
catalogue:

cards:
0 [card1 ]: AudioPCI - Ensoniq AudioPCI
                     Ensoniq AudioPCI ES1370 at 0xe000, irq 10

version:
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.3.0-pre4.
Compiled in Feb 11 1999 for kernel 2.2.1.

As result:

1. I have no any ALSA relevant messages in /var/log/messages file
2. when I try to start any of alsa utils I get error messages like this:

[root@shulz aplay]# [root@shulz aplay]# ./aplay
Aplay: version 0.3.0-pre3 by Jaroslav Kysela <perex@jcu.cz>
Error: audio open error: No such file or directory

[root@shulz aplay]# [root@shulz alsamixer]# ./alsamixer
alsamixer: failed to open mixer #0/#0: No such file or directory

I recognize that it is not your obligation to fix such problems (I know as I
mentioned above that this card works fine with ALSA-drivers) but I'd be glad
to get any hint, what should I try to fix.

Thank in advance,
