I got Kernel 2.2.0-pre1 and tried to compile ALSA. ./configure
script failed complaining that kernel version is not a numerical
constant. It couldn't digest the "pre1" part. I ended up changing
version to 2.2.0, compiling ALSA, copying modules to 2.2.0-pre1 dir
and it worked just fine. Now if ./configure could be tought to
understant non-numerical values for kernel version...

P.S. this was with 2.0-pre10, I tried 3.0-pre1 and got same thing.
